The idea of Healthy Cities was
first put forward in a 1984 Conference entitled 'Beyond Health
Care' in Toronto, Canada. The Healthy Cities Project is intended
to lend support to city-based health promotion efforts. There
had been an increasing realisation throughout the world of the
need to grapple with human induced crises, which are in larger
parts, the results and expectations of city dwellers. The
challenge is to find ways of renewing efforts towards achieving
a high quality of life for city dwellers.
