Event Date: 27 Apr 1999 - 30 Apr 1999
Moving away from Sibu, the Fifth Inter-Agency Conference was held in Bintulu from 27-30 April 1999. It was attended by more than 100 participants from various agencies and departments in Sarawak. There were also participants representing their respective Health Departments from Peninsula Malaysia.

“Promoting Healthy City through Healthy Culture and Lifestyle” was the theme chosen for the Conference. The objective was to create awareness and promote the commitment of the public, agencies and private sector on their role and contribution in ensuring the effective enforcement of rules and regulations in line with the Healthy City Concept.

During the Conference, a series of presentations by 21 agencies were carried out, followed by workshop sessions, whereby the participants were divided into groups and each group was given a topic to discuss. The topics discussed were as follow:

Improving Enforcement of Regulations
Healthy City Indicators

Improving Sanitation in Traditional Villages in Urban and Peri-Urban Areas

Implementing the Land Use (Control of Prescribed Trading Activities) Ordinance, 1997

Identification of Healthy City Projects for Kuching City and Other Towns in the State

During the discussion, various recommendations were put up and brought to the attention of the public. Several strategies, along with the agencies responsible for the action were also identified.
